Our Mission
Our organization is dedicated to the rescue of starved, abused and slaughter-bound horses to help heal and rehabilitate those that can be adopted out to loving homes and to provide a permanent home for those that are disabled. In support of these efforts, the organization seeks to increase beneficial human and equine relationships through animal/human interaction.
Rescue
Being an open door shelter, we have seen just about everything. Careful evaluation of each unique situation is important to ensure the best road to recovery for these animals. We work with local livestock authorities to ensure the proper protocol is followed when rescuing each horse from owner surrenders, law enforcement seizures, auction pulls, etc.
Rehabilitate
Horses come in all shapes and sizes, and so do their ailments. The most common forms of neglect we see are inadequate diet, lack of hoof care (farrier), and untreated injuries. We work closely with multiple proffessional veterinarians to verify the animals quality of life and rehabilitation plan.
Rehome
When horses are fully rehabilitated, they are listed for adoption. We have an adoption application process that allows us to screen each applicant for the right qualities that will provide a forever home for the horse. If an adopter decide the horse isn’t the right fit we encourage them to bring the horse back to us – every adopted Lazy B horse will have a place here with us if needed.
Sanctuary
At Lazy B, we are committed to ensuring that every horse can live their best life while enjoying the Five Freedoms, even if they are not adoptable. Our sanctuary offers a safe haven where these horses can spend their days roaming open pastures and forming bonds within their herd. Your support is essential to help us continue providing the shelter, care, and security these sanctuary horses deserve!
Educate
Our Education Program is dedicated to promoting responsible horse care, equine welfare, and humane treatment through hands-on learning experiences. We offer educational workshops, youth programs, and community outreach initiatives that teach proper horse handling, nutrition, healthcare, and the importance of rescue and rehabilitation. By engaging with schools, youth groups, and aspiring equestrians, we aim to foster compassion, responsibility, and advocacy for equines in need. Whether through interactive farm visits, mentorship opportunities, or public awareness campaigns, our goal is to inspire the next generation of horse advocates while strengthening the human-equine bond.

A Horse’s Five Freedoms
The Five Freedoms are the internationally recognized standards for animal welfare, ensuring that horses and all animals receive proper care and humane treatment. At Lazy B Equine Rescue & Sanctuary, we uphold these freedoms to provide the best possible care for every horse we rescue.
- Freedom from Hunger and Thirst – Horses must have access to fresh, clean water and a proper diet to maintain health and strength.
- Freedom from Discomfort – Providing appropriate shelter, bedding, and a safe environment protects horses from weather extremes and discomfort.
- Freedom from Pain, Injury, or Disease – Routine veterinary care, farrier services, and prompt medical attention ensure horses remain healthy and pain-free.
- Freedom to Express Normal Behavior – Horses are social, herd-oriented animals that need space to move, graze, and interact with others naturally.
- Freedom from Fear and Distress – A calm, caring, and humane environment allows horses to feel safe, secure, and free from anxiety or mistreatment.
By following these Five Freedoms, we ensure that every horse at Lazy B receives the dignity, care, and respect they deserve.
